Hey everyone, welcome back! The countdown to returning home has begun (only two weeks left overseas!) and while I'm sad to be ending this chapter of my adventures, I'm definitely ready to go home for a while and reconnect with my friends and family. I'm also super excited to have access to all my craft supplies again!! The longer I travel, the more I feel the itch to make and craft and create. I bought just enough yarn while I was in Vienna to make a lovely shawl and indulged in purchasing my first fountain pen in London, but aside from that I haven't had many artistic outlets.
Until Twitch! I always considered Twitch as a space just for gamers, but one of my favorite podcasters/activists/educators @Catieosaurus plugged her Twitch channel on TikTok a few weeks ago and I decided to join up so I could get more of their content on live streams. While browsing other channels on Twitch, I discovered that there is SO much more than just gaming (of both the video and tabletop varieties). I have been loving co-working streams so I can body double while working remotely, as well as crafting and stationery streams! I've always loved the aesthetic of junk journals and collage journals but had never gotten into it myself, but after watching the amazing creators of the Stationery Brew Crew on Twitch I definitely felt the impulse to pick up this new hobby.
Since I'm still traveling, I decided to give myself a bit of a coming home present and ordered some stickers, washi tape, and other journaling supplies for me to open when I get home, but I was still feeling such an urge to make something! So I started making some digital collages on Canva and posting some quotes, travel pictures, and poems on Instagram. This morning I also decided that I needed a new wallpaper for my laptop, so I decided to collage one!
This is sized specifically for my 13 inch MacBook Air, but feel free to download and use if it catches your fancy!
My last stop in Europe has been Athens, and I'm taking an island hopping cruise on Friday to swim and enjoy the water, so I wanted something with a lot of fun layers and a blue watery theme. I like to organize things into several different folders on my desktop, so the torn white page along the bottom is for those various folders. The little notebook page on the top left is for my two work-specific folders, and the blue washi strip on the right is where all the screenshots and miscellaneous downloads I have for work projects live until they get organized into the proper folders.
I really love making digital collages, it's absolutely free (my Canva Pro account is from work, but a lot of their resources are available for free!), doesn't make a mess, and helps to scratch that itch when I want to create something but don't have access to my supplies or a workspace.
Have you made digital collages? What are your favorite resources or platforms to create? (And what Twitch channels do you recommend I check out???)
Until next time! 💙
